1. About

Nimble capture is a browser extension for Chrome (also available for Firefox and Safari) which allows users to take screenshots and screencasts of websites. It enables users to capture full-page screenshots, selected areas, or record screen activity on any webpage. Nimble capture protects your privacy by processing all captures locally on your device and only uploading them when you choose to do so.

The technology is based on browser APIs that allow for screen capture and recording. Any capture or recording happens on your computer, and we do not see or track the content unless you explicitly choose to upload or share it. For this purpose, it is necessary for the extension to have the permission to access your screen content and browser tabs.

Hence, we collect and process (personal) data:

  • when you visit our website http://www.nimblecapture.com,
  • when you install and use Nimble capture (hereinafter also the "Extension" or the "Services").

Please direct any privacy inquiries to support@nimblecapture.com.

3. Website Data Processing

1. General

When using the website http://www.nimblecapture.com for information purposes only, i.e. when no action is taken on the website, no personal data is collected, except for the data that your browser automatically transmits to enable you to visit the website. This includes, for example, the browser used, the IP address.

These data are generally processed on the basis of legitimate interests in accordance with Art 6 para 1 lit f) GDPR, namely, to optimize the website and to ensure security and stability, as well as to be able to identify and prosecute misuse. This data is stored for a period of 14 days.

2. Data Processing in course of providing the Extension

Information collected during the download/install process

When downloading the Extension, certain required information can be transmitted to the respective browser store selected by you (e.g. Chrome Web Store), which can include the ID of your account, the e-mail address, the time of the download or installation and the individual device identification number. This data is processed exclusively by the respective store and is beyond our control. You will therefore find more detailed information on this data processing in the data protection declaration of the respective store operator.

Information processed by using Nimble capture

After installing Nimble capture, an individual ID is being assigned to each user. Based on this ID we collect and process statistical, i.e. anonymized or non-personal data, including the number of users, the approximate location of users (maximum to city level), and which websites were captured or recorded. The location is derived from the user's IP-Address, which will be deleted 7 (seven) days after retrieving the location data.

We look at the aggregated usage statistics to better understand where Nimble capture needs improving, monitor overall speed issues and error rates. We consider language and other local information to determine what possible localizations would be most useful to our users and to improve the extension functionality in different geographics.

We only process non-personal data in this regard. Where personal data is processed, e.g. the IP-Address for a short period to derive the location, these data are generally processed on the basis of legitimate interests in accordance with Art 6 para 1 lit f) GDPR, namely, to gain insights about the usage of our Services, optimize the Services and to ensure security and stability, as well as to be able to identify and prosecute misuse.

4. Permissions

The Extension requires a certain number of permissions so you can enjoy its full potential. For security reasons we use the narrowest permissions available to still provide you the full functionality. These permissions are:

  • alarms - The alarms permission is required to periodically perform health checks on open tabs, ensuring timely detection and resolution of performance issues by reloading tabs that exceed load time limits.
  • webRequest - The webRequest permission is required to enable URL redirection to specific target patterns, ensuring users are seamlessly redirected for enhanced user experience and content sharing.
  • declarativeNetRequest - The declarativeNetRequest permission is required to create and manage URL redirection rules within the extension, enabling efficient control over network requests and ensuring users are directed to specified URLs as needed for functionality.
  • scripting - The "scripting" permission is needed to access the ability to load files/styles in the context of pages.
  • downloads - Is needed to save screenshots and videos to the user's disk.
  • tabs - This permission is needed for the application to work correctly in the tab. For example, for Fragment mode or for drawing in video.
  • activeTab - Permission ActiveTab is needed to correctly display New icon on Active tab.
  • storage - Our Chrome extension requests storage permission to securely save user preferences, settings, and necessary data locally, ensuring a personalized, seamless, and optimized experience.
  • unlimitedStorage - Used to store recorded video in the local file system.
  • contextMenus - Used to run the extension through the browser context menu
  • desktopCapture - Is needed to take screenshots and desktop screencasts
  • tabCapture - Is needed to take screenshots and screencasts of the current page
  • clipboardWrite - If the user saves a screenshot or video in Nimble, then the link is saved to the clipboard
  • system.display - The "system.display" permission is used to take screenshots of the entire screen and to access the dimensions of the user's display.
  • offscreen - The "offscreen" permission is used to create a background tab necessary for recording video/screencasts.
  • <all_urls> - to provide the core functionality on all websites
